Another Good Tournament Weekend for LCU Teams
On the heals of a good showing at the FC Milwaukee Tournament, LCU teams again showed their high level of play this past weekend at both the SC Waukesha Augustfest and the FC Green Bay Invitational.  With 5 teams competing between the two tournaments, Lake Country United teams competed in 3 championship games.

The U12 Girls Red team, coached by Marcio Leite took home the championship at the Augustfest Tournament winning the final with style 5-0.  The girls played extremely well winning every game and outscoring their opponents 26-2.  Coach Marcio stated, "The girls played really well and got better with each game they played."

The U11 Girls Red team, coached by Eddie Camara made it the championship game, but came up just short against some great competition losing 1-3.  They played extremely well in group play, to reach the finals, going 3-0 and outscoring their challengers 10-1.

Up in Fond du Lac, site of the FC Green Bay Invitational, the U16 Girls Red team, coached by Lovelace Ackah, overcame some adversity throughout the weekend to make it to the championship game.  At the end of regulation, the score was tied 1-1, so PKs decided the outcome with LCU coming up just short.

Again, congrats to EVERY team who participated in games this weekend.  Thank you to all the families and friends who came out to support the teams!

LCU Has Two Teams in Finals at FC Milwaukee Tournament
Lake Country United sent 8 teams to the competitive FC Milwaukee Tournament and had two teams make the finals with one championship and one runner-up.  The U14 Girls Red team, coached by Xavi Rico, took home the title.  Going 3-0 through group play, the girls won their games with 21 goals for and only 2 goals against.  In the semi-finals, the girls came out with a 3-0 win.  The final game was a great battle between two excellent teams with the LCU girls prevailing with a 1-0 win.  Congrats to the U14 Girls Red team and coach Xavi for an excellent tournament!

The U13 Boys Red team also made it to the final, but came up short in their championship bid losing 1-2 in the final.  Congrats to the boys on a hard-fought tournament.

Well done to all the teams and coaches who participated and represented LCU very well!

Select Camp

From July 26th-30th, select players from Lake Country United trained at Merton Soccer Park as part of LCU's annual select camp.  The 2 hour sessions were divided between boys and girls then further divided into age groups.  Each player received 10 hours of training and received a different topic by a different coach every day.  This camp provides an excellent opportunity for our players to gain an advantage.  The end of this camp is a catalyst to the start of team training in August and helps prepare our select players for their fall season. Thanks to everyone who participated!

LCU at ODP
Recently, six members of Lake Country United represented the state of Wisconsin at ODP Regional Camp as part of their respectful age group. Two boys, Ryan Rice and Wyatt Gilson, represented Wisconsin at the 1996 age group. Three girls, Gabby Solano, Sabrina Dupaix, and Alyssa Nigh represented the 1996 age group. Christina Feller was the lone representative for the 1997 age group.

Each one of these players was selected through a try-out process and placed on the state team for their age group. They then traveled to Regional Camp to compete against players from 13 other states for a spot on the regional team. Besides the players on state teams, LCU had several players participate in regional camp as developmental players. Congratulations to all LCU players who represented Wisconsin through the ODP program!

Alyssa Nigh (’96) stated about her experience:

“I thought ODP camp was a great experience. The coaching staff did an amazing job of helping me improve my skills and myself as a player. ODP camp brings together high level coaches from across the Midwest and I received feedback from a wide variety of coaching styles. I was given a point of view from all of the coaches on what I can improve on and what I did well. I think getting coached by different coaches is a good thing to do at a young age - to learn different styles of playing the game and to hear instructions from different coaches. It all makes me a more confident and flexible player. Competition at ODP camp was great. I was able to play with girls from more than 13 different states. I would recommend ODP camp to anyone who loves soccer and wants to improve their game through serious competition. I would have to say it was one of the best experiences I’ve had (I have attended 2 years in a row).”

LCU 2nd Annual Goalie and Finishing Camp Wrapped Up
For three days, over 60 players participated in LCU's 2nd Annual Goalie and Finishing camp.  During the course of the camp, field players were put through a series of shooting and finishing drills that focused on the technique of shooting and expanded to situational finishing and small games.  Goalie training focused on technique and commanding the goal box.  Both groups of players were combined at the end of each session for small games.

Coach Diderrich stated, "Finishing is such a vital part to the game, as showcased in the recently completed World Cup.  Games are won and lost by inches and it takes a lot of concentration to finish.  The kids were all challenged with several different approaches to scoring and creating scoring chances and did very well in all the sessions.  The goalies did a great job being shot-stoppers."

Thanks and great job to all who participated.
