Cambridge Health Alliance Readiness for Gambling Expansion (CHARGE)

Cambridge Health Alliance's Charge for Gambling initiative is an initiative aimed at promoting healthy communities in Massachusetts and beyond through provider training, outreach activities, and research related to gambling disorder, addiction, and other related mental health conditions.

2024 CHARGE activities include:

  • The Addiction Division received funding from the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Office of Problem Gambling to support health resources in the 2024 Problem Gambling Outreach Day activities, including consultation and assistance in planning, designing, conducting CE-certified first-time hosts, and developing a best practices guide for hosts.
  • Nakita Sonsoni presented Problem Gambling 101 at the Institute for Health and Recovery meeting on January 5.
  • On January 9, Kira Landauer and Caitlyn Matykiewicz presented on the Gambling Problem Outreach Day at the National Council on Problem Gambling's "Preparing for Problem Gambling Awareness Day 2024."
  • On January 26, Caitlyn Matykiewicz presented an online webinar for Massachusetts treatment providers, "Promoting Problem Gambling Services," through the MA Technical Assistance Center.
  • On February 6, Caitlyn Matykiewicz presented on the Gambling Disorder Outreach Day at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health's Bureau of Substance Abuse Services (BSAS) Northeast Provider Conference.
  • Kira Landauer conducted an online webinar, "Introduction to Screening and Assessment for Gambling Disorders: Part 1 (Outreach)" for Massachusetts treatment providers through the MA Gambling Treatment Technical Assistance Center on February 9th.
  • Kira Landauer conducted an online webinar, "Introduction to Screening and Assessment for Gambling Problems: Part 2 (Assessment)" for Massachusetts treatment providers through the MA Gambling Treatment Technical Assistance Center on February 16th.
  • Division staff from Addiction and Health Resources in Action facilitated the Technical Assistance for Problem Gambling (M-TAC).
  • In March, the Acting Addiction and Health Resource Department proceeded in "Creating a Learning Academy Program and Gambling of Gambling" in March, following funding from the Gaming Challenge Room, Massachusetts.
  • On March 6, Harvard Health Publishing featured an article by Debi Laplante.
  • On March 8, Dr. Heather Gray and Kaitin Matthin Matyquevich conducted an online training for professional social workers through a specialized education program at the Faculty of Social Work at Bridge Water.
  • The 11th gambling disorder outreach day founded in 2014 by the Cambridge Health Alliance addiction department was held on March 12.
  • On March 13, Anette Siu announced at the Harvard Psychiatry Study Group and Mysel Lecture: "Development of computers and wellness screening tools for the elderly"
  • John Slab Chinsky announced on March 13 at the Harvard Psychiatry and Psychiatry Psychiatry Council and Mycell Lecture: "Responsible Drinking: For Measurement of An ambiguous store"
  • Dr. Debi Laplante and Heather Gray have implemented the Webinar "Screening for Gambling Disord".
  • On April 3, Nakita Son Soni conducted a webinar "Gambling Disorder Treatment" for the providers of Massachusetts through the MA Technical Support Center.
  • On May 8 and 10, Kira Landauer conducted an online training "Introduction to Gambling and Gaming Disorder" for Kasa Esperanza Inc. staff.
  • On May 14, Kaitin Machiki Witz announced a MA Technical Assistance Center for the problem gambling at the Massachusetzetzetzettes Service Service Service Service Service Service Service Service Service Bureau (BSAS).
  • Dr. Sarah Nelson implemented online webinar "responsible gaming algorithm": What are we actually measuring? Organized by international center for responsible gaming on May 15th
  • At the Massachusetts problem meeting sponsored by the Massachusetts State Public Health Bureau, Kailla Landauer, Kaitin Matthyevich, and Nakita Son Soni have announced "Gambling Screening Innovation: Equipment and Section of barriers of health lenses." May 17th
  • In the Massachusetts State Public Health Bureau, the Acting Society of Health Resources will proceed with the "Project Build Up Learning Academy: Stigma and Gamble Question" in June in June It was a role.

  • The department promoted the use of the online anonymous BBGS e-screener.
  • On February 16, 2016, the department announced that class faculty have expanded their Screening Day Toolkit materials to include a standard Screening Day flyer template.
  • Dr. Howard Shafer is teaching addiction psychiatry fellows at the Boston Veterans Affairs Department at Boston University School of Medicine on the Addiction Syndrome Model.
  • During June, the department presented a summary analysis of the Plainridge Park Casino Gaming Sense Program & Visitor Survey: December 1, 2015 - May 31, 2016.
  • During October, Dr. Heather Gray and Dr. Howard Shafer, along with department staff member Layne Keating, attended a public meeting of the Massachusetts Gaming Commission to present findings from an evaluation of a local responsible gaming initiative.
  • In fall 2016, the department began training CHA psychiatry residents in the Addiction Syndrome Model, which focuses on the suppression, prevention, and treatment of gambling disorders.
  • In October, Dr. Heather Gray delivered the keynote address at the Connecticut Council on Problem Gambling. Her presentation was titled "Responsible Gambling Interventions: The Current State of the Field."
  • During December, the department participated with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health to inform and explore first steps toward change: introducing the department's gambling guidelines and treatment guidelines for gambling-related problems.

  • On March 19, 2014, a research staff in the addiction department published a new knowledge about gambling in Massachusetts at a poster session and a Mysel lecture on Harvard Psychiatry Day. You can see the poster here.
  • On March 20, 2014, Dr. Sarah Nelson gave a lecture on the Internet gambling: behavior, risks, intervening, and results at the Lunch Party of the Gamble Additional Research Council, Massachusetts, held in Springfield, Massachusetts.
  • On April 10, 2014, Devi Laplante published a new survey on gambling participation in Massachusetts.
  • On April 29, 2014, Dr. Sarah Nelson visited Bridge Water University and provided training for gaming disorders to the Faculty of Social Work as part of the doctoral researcher program focusing on addiction.
  • On June 12, 2014, Devi Laplante gave a lecture on the Internet Gambling: Evidence at the Lunch Party of the Gambling Intelligence Research Council, Massachusetts, held in Boston, Massachusetts.
