Robert is survived by his children Michael and Terry Meyer and three grandchildren, Michael Meyer, Brittney Moore and Nikki Nebo Meyer. A gathering for family and friends will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2010 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the Norfolk Tavern Brigg in Port Dover. Donna Ryerse

She passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on July 25, 2010 in West Vancouver, England. Donna was born April 10, 1918 in Bay Village, Ohio to William and Isabel Whitnam. In 1940, she decided to emigrate to Florida in search of a warmer climate. She met the love of her life, Victor, and moved north up Lake Erie to Port Dover where she lived until 2001. Vic and his brother Vern were the original owners of the Arbor. Donna and Vic were naturalists, avid birdwatchers and avid amateur gardeners. They traveled extensively to exotic locations including Machu Picchu, Peru, the Galapagos, Australia, Kuwait and Greece. Donna was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at Norfolk General Hospital where she created floral arrangements and directed the gift shop. She was also a member of the Simcoe Pottery Club, where she created much-loved pieces of blue and white pottery that were featured in Chatelaine magazine. She enjoyed curling, bridge, gardening, reading, dancing and being with her family. She is survived by her beloved sister Doris Marsbach of Pompton Plains, N. B., and her three children, Peter and wife Margie Eion Soon of Hong Kong, Vicky and husband Jack Ryan of West Vancouver, BC, and Cynthia and husband Robert Melton of Singapore. She was a wonderful mother. She will be fondly remembered and deeply missed.

The beloved husband of Marilyn (maiden name Maclaflin) and his late Charlie (1977's old surname Maknoton). The beloved father of Sherry (Mark), George (Mary), Dennis (Peter), Al (Tracy) and Cindy (Rob). He died of eight grandchildren, six grandchildren, his so n-i n-law Frank Mark, and many nephew niece. Prior to her sister Hazel (Harry Bernard), Gladis (George Guiding), Florence Mark, and his brother James Davidson (childhood). George was a Navy veteran in World War II and dedicated to the northern end of Hamilton, where he grew up. He retired from the Hamilton Board of Education and was also a retired Santa Claus. Dedicated to family, local communities, and churches, which were the great priests. Friends can meet at the end of the day, Jesus Christ Church (Hamilton, Stone Church Road East 701) from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 18, 2010. McNeilly, Donald Eugene - It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of cherished husband, father and grandfather, Donald Eugene McNeilly of Port Dover, who passed away on August 13, 2010, at the age of 83, at Steadman Community Hospital in Brantford after a tough battle with cancer and surrounded by the love of his family. The love of his high school life, his best friend and husband of 63 years to Marion (Hannah). Dear father of Sandra Brown (Ted), Donna Ryder (Eugene Jeffery), Lynn McNeilly, all of Brantford and Steven McNeilly (Kim) of Port Dover. Loving grandfather of Russ Brown (Donna), Angie Brown (Dan Murray), Travis Ryder (Valerie), Allison Windsor (Kevin), Brandi Graham-Knapp (Carl), Tyler Graham (Terry-Lynn), Ryan and Kevin McNairy. Doted on by great-grandfather Avery Grime, Katie, Chrissy and Eldon Ryder, Josh and Isaac Windsor, Dawson Frickema, Jabe and Hannah Knapp and Jessica and Jordan Graham. Dearest brother of Marilyn Balch of Fort Erie and sons-in-law Bill and Joyce Hanna of Simcoe. Don was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart (1969), Lillian (1999), brother Laird (2004), infant granddaughter Holly Ann Graham (1979) and son-in-law Jack Ryder (2004). Don and Marion married in 1947 and raised their family in the home they built together 60 years ago. He retired from American Container after 42 years of employment and many will remember him as a photographer covering local events in his younger years.

SMITH, Constable Paul Douglas, of Simcoe, passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010 at Norfolk General Hospital, age 57, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love of his family. Beloved and devoted husband of Judy (nee Stackhouse). Loving and proud father and grandfather of Krista Short (Jeff) and their children Jaelyn and Liam, Amanda Anderson (Jeremy) and their children Porter and Lyah, all of Waterford. Dearest brother and brother-in-law of Ruth (Paul), Vicki LaFay (Andy), Bill Brewer (Chris), Ed Stackhouse (Susan) and Jeff Stackhouse (Chris). Paul was predeceased by his father Cecil Smith, his mother Grace Jackson, his stepfather Warren Jackson, his stepmother Olive Stackhouse and his stepfather Tom Stackhouse. Paul will be missed by many friends and colleagues. Paul has been a police officer since 1985, first with the Haldimand/Norfolk District Police and then with the O. P. P. Simcoe Detachment. Paul was highly respected and led by example. He was a well-known presence in Port Dover and served his community with honesty, fairness and integrity. He was worthy of being known as the "Sheriff of Port Dover". In 2009 he was awarded the "Commissioner's Citation for Life Saving" and was also awarded the "Certificate of Special Recognition" by St. John Ambulance. Dear mother of Evelyn Petryniak-Husby (Terrie Husby) and the late William Petryniak and their children, Michael Petryniak (Valerie), Craig Petryniak and Eric Husby (Brenda). Mary Wilson (Robert) and their children, Charlotte Wilson-Healy (Mark) and Matthew Wilson. Howard Craig (Irena) and their children, Eli (Mia), Jackson (Stephanie) and Ella. Sadly missed by seven great-grandchildren. Ruth was born in Brantford, daughter of the late Charles and Charlotte Lewis. Sister of the late Raymond Lewis (Viola) and the late Joyce Hodgson. Predeceased by son-in-law Bruce Hodgson. Ruth attended schools in Brantford and a general nursing school in the Toronto area. She was an avid reader and taught all her children that interest. A long time resident of Port Dover, she was a member of the Knox Presbyterian Choir Choir, Heather Club and served as Sunday School principal. She was a member of Silver Lake Rebekah Lodge and past president of the Port Dover Public Schools Home School Association. Visitation for Ruth will be held on Tuesday, July 13, 2010 from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Thompson-Waters Funeral Home, 102 First Avenue, Port Dover (519-583-1530). Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Ross moved to his mother's native Norfolk County at the age of 16 to attend Port Dover Composite School. With his charming smile, easy-going nature, dry wit and charming accent, Ross quickly attracted many friends in Canada. He earned a diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology from Fanshawe College, then a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Western Ontario, and worked as an engineer in London, Ontario until his death. Ross is survived by his partner Melissa Bedard, his mother Lois Taunton and grandmother Dorothy Landon, both of Simcoe, his father Graham Taunton, Zimbabwe, and his sister Ellen and her husband Matt, Zimbabwe. sister, Ellen and husband Matt (Zimbabwe), brother, Trevor and wife Julie (South Africa), nieces and nephews, Jason, Jenny, Lee and Kahreg, Canadian uncles and aunts, Jackie and Allen McMann, Jim and Sharan Landon and Peter and Semone Landon. Imougen was born between Raymond Nister, a Canadian writer, and Murl (gambling) Nister in Port Dover. He graduated from Ottawa Normal School and became a teacher. After teaching in the North Field, he met Allen and married. Both run dairy farms and raised six children. She was passionate and familiar with Canadian literature. She was a descendant of the Roylist Alliance and was interested in local history. He really loved 11 grandchildren. BURK - J. Kenneth (Ken). Passed away at his home on R. R.#5, Simcoe, on Thursday, April 15, 2010, Ken Burke, age 74. Beloved husband of Debra (nee DeMarco) and predeceased by his first wife Rowena (nee Dixon). Predeceased by his parents Harry and Flossie Burke and eldest son James. Dear father of Ronald Burke (Waterford), Gerald Burke (Susie) (Port Dover), Stephen Burke (Jill) (Jarvis) and Adrian DeMarco (Toronto). Also survived by his sister Madeline and daughter-in-law Judy, eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. One of Ken's great passions in life was farming. FINNINGAN, Gerald - Surrounded by his wife and daughters at his home in Port Dover, Jerry passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 17th, 2010 at the age of 65 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jerry will be missed by his loving wife Colleen and his proudest achievements: daughters Barbara and Andy Morris (Stony Creek), Kim and Brad Shott (Simcoe) and Sarah and Matt Hall (Port Dover). Jerry was the much loved and proud "priest" to his seven grandchildren Annette, Rohan, Isaiah, Clara and Hayley, Owen and Samuel. He was the beloved son of Francis and the late Frederick Finnigan and cherished brother and brother-in-law of Brian and Karen Finnigan of London, John and Patty Finnigan of Oakville, Mary and Nick Thompson of Grimsby, Monica and Murray Elliott of St. Mary's, and Bill and Lucia McCurdy of Toronto. Uncle Jerry will be missed by his many nephews whom he loved very much. Jerry was employed by Stelco Corporation for 35 years, finishing his career as a Supervisor in the Electrical Engineering Department. Jerry loved golf and after retirement he began his "second career" at the Greens in Renton, enjoying many summer days on the course. He was an avid member and past president of the Port Dover Lions Club, and contributed to his community for 18 years. He will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Margaret Gurney
