FLXdrive™ Battery Electric Locomotive

Last year, Wabtech developed the world's first 100 % batter y-driven large electric locomotive (FLXDRIVE ™) and took a bold step toward the future of zero emission locomotives from low emission. The locomotive, equipped with about 20. 000 battery cells, conducted a driving test on a hill with more than 13. 320 miles in Sanhoakin Valley, California.

The FLXDRIVE was mounted on two other locomotives, with a battery capacity of 2. 4 megawatts, which succeeded in reducing the overall fuel consumption by 11 % by more than 11 %. This is equivalent to saving diesel fuel over 6. 200 gallon and reducing CO2 emissions by about 69 tons.

The next version of FLXDRIVE is currently under development and is planning to launch a market in 2023. The battery capacity is 7 megawatts and is expected to reduce fuel consumption and emissions by 30 %.

Improving Air Quality

Next Generation Friction Technology

Wabtech's Green Friction Technology is a great deal of investment in our expertise in frictional materials and how to measure the particles discharged during braking.

Over the past year, the technology has undergone rigorous testing with Paris-area operator RATP, demonstrating its ability to reduce particulate matter emissions from friction braking on metro trains by up to 90%. RATP and Wabtec have now equipped two trains running on one of Europe's busiest lines with the new technology for the final trial run. This technology marks a major milestone in the journey towards cleaner tunnels for passengers and network staff.

Increasing throughput & improving efficiency

Port Optimizer™

Wabtec is increasing port throughput and improving efficiency with Port Optimizer™, a cloud-based software that integrates data from across the port ecosystem to help the supply chain monitor and respond to dynamic situations, coordinate personnel and resources, and proactively communicate between operations.

In addition to improving Port Optimizer™ performance, it also provides an opportunity for ports to differentiate themselves from their competitors. To better plan operations, accurate information on container movements, status changes, asset management, etc. must be shared in a timely manner across all involved ports. As a neutral party, port authorities can be the driving force in building a digital infrastructure that collects, aggregates and standardizes data flowing through the port and makes this data easily available through APIs and various applications.

Reducing Port Emissions

ShoreCONNECT

Wabtec is reducing port emissions with ShoreCONNECT, a flexible shore power solution that connects electrical power to ships in port, eliminating the need for diesel. It connects ships at the quay to high-voltage, self-propelled, zero-emission vehicles up to 16MVA.

The installation of ShoreCONNECT allows ports to support the sulphur emission control zone set in the Baltic Sea region, which requires a 40% reduction in CO2 emissions from ships by 2030. In addition, ShoreCONNECT also helps reduce noise pollution in ports, as engines are shut off while ships are connected.

Improving Fuel Efficiency & Next-Generation Technology

The FDL Advantage

Wabtec has developed a fuel-saving engine upgrade package for the FDL locomotive platform, as well as a complete control system replacement. FDL Advantage modernization can reduce fuel consumption by up to 5 percent, helping customers achieve their sustainability and operational efficiency goals.

The FDL advantage not only meets the demands of the industry of improving fuel efficiency and reliability, but also leads to the future of railway stations by introducing nex t-generation data and software functions.
