On staying grounded in your creativity

For a long time, I have been involved in a very musical DIY scene in Montreal and have been involved in music as a hobby for weekends and at night. As time has passed, I studied at the University of Magil and worked on an equity training work. In the latter half of 2019, he was overwhelmed by his work and was filled with a strong desire to pursue music and creative things, and fell into a state of burnout syndrome. I really felt, "If you don't pay attention to your creative practice, you will die. It was really like that.

So in late January of 2020, my doctor was diagnosed as exhausting clinically, and I took a lot of work, but after that, pandemics occurred, and basically I started working on creation. is. And after the pandemic started, I basically didn't go back to work, just started a creative work.

I can imagine that it would have been very scary to move to an unknown world from where it was considered stable or safe.

Completely. To be honest, the fact that the government had a monthly subsidy in the first year of Pandemic was a major reason I was able to continue my creative activities. That's why I'm a Universal Basic Income supporter. If there is a means for that, I feel that there are many artists who can become (ful l-time) artists. The financial resources are very important, and I always apply for subsidies. If there is no subsidy in the bank account, apply for the next subsidy. In Canada, I am very lucky because there are systems that allow you to get great funds as long as you can access it. But many people cannot.

You have been diagnosed with burning syndrome, but are you still going to burn out?

I was afraid of getting busy after getting tired. I felt like being busy was triggered. It was a time when I happened to do nothing. The best treatment for exhaustion is to learn how to do nothing, which is very good for creative brains. Now I'm much more busy than before, I like being busy, but doing what I want to do is very important, that's the only management method.

How do you balance all creative activities?

I guess some people want to concentrate on one thing or immersed in creative things, but I'm definitely a person who can grow up in a day. I work par t-time for the pop Montreal Music Festival, so I work on email, switch, play the piano for one hour, write a song, do tiktok, and return to my e-mail. 。 This cycle is very useful and an ideal work environment.

Do you change the way of sel f-expression depending on the mood of the day? How do you choose your creativity?

Actually, I'm thinking about it now. When the pandemic began, I took out Tiktok and saw what people were doing, and I felt this style comedy was very interesting. After watching for a while, I came to want to do this. At first I was very happy, and I was laughing and laughing. He really excited and explored a happy mood. For a long time, music was a way to find me sad and explore more complicated and deep spiritual emotions. Comedy and music were very special for a while. But recently, we have begun to think about how to fade out together, explore hard emotions and difficult themes through comedy, and explore how joy and fun through music. I feel like my next creative chapter.

Eva, you are very interesting. Could you talk about the existence and importance of humor and play in your work?

I think the laughter is very wonderful. What a hell, like a kindergarten teacher. From 2020 to 2021, comedy and comedy in general were exciting. I think people were very scared, sad, depressed, and really needed to be able to laugh at Leviti. I definitely needed it and I still need it. I think people always need it. It is very powerful and exciting to make people laugh and find joy. < SPAN> I think some people want to concentrate on one thing or immerse themselves in their creative things, but I'm definitely a person who can grow up in a day. One of the most interesting reasons for me is when people feel that people have shown their unique experiences. Oh, I know this person, or know, or I have this experience, I think it's very interesting for me, but now I'm laughing. So that's the moment I was recognized in the true sense. This is a great thing, and I think it's a powerful thing that comedy is good at.

It's really wonderful, and you prove that humor is a tool that connects people, right?
