16043 0-Leon County ProHibitation in The Tallahassee Democra t-My View by Gary J. Whittenberger APRIL 30, 2016 I and my wife have been living in Talahasie and Leon County for about 43 years. We love this county. It's the best place to live, but it's also dangerous. The mining enthusiast is coming! We must stop it. Flacking is a special method of extracting oil and gas from underground. Injecting toxic chemicals and large amounts of water into the ground with high voltage, destroy or dissolve rocks and deposits to release oil and gas. Since News Week magazine called Florida "Fracking's Next Frontier" in early 2014, it was clear that the oil and gas industry have been colored in some of the florida. You may have read an essay that minimizes the risk of fracking on the Democratic Party, so let's organize the records. Mining is dangerous for the environment. Always pollute the water source. It's a matter of how fast and worse it gets. Medical issues in adults, children, pets, and livestock are associated with mining. Waste water pressure is a toxic water processing, and mining itself causes hundreds of earthquakes in Oklahoma and other areas. A large amount of methane has been leaked from other mining plants. < SPAN> 16043 0-LEON County ProHibitation in The Tallahassee Democra t-My View by Gary J. Looney says he is fiscally conservative and opposes the need to purchase additional land south of Lake Okeechobee, suggesting such action would be a "costly federal land grab." He wants lawmakers to reconsider the finances and water budget for Everglades restoration. The Central South Florida Flood Control Project model used as the basis for Everglades restoration under the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Program (CERP) is seriously flawed because it incorporates data collected from 30 years of drought cycles from 1965 to 1995. SFWMD has underestimated the need for storage for Everglades restoration, and an additional 1 million acre-feet of water storage is needed to properly manage peak flows from Lake Okeechobee. Yet the lawmaker wants to spend about $16 billion of taxpayer money over the next 30 years in the name of Everglades restoration that does not adequately address the storage and treatment of excess flows from Lake Okeechobee. Additionally, USACOE has already spent approximately $750 million to levee 22 miles of the Herbert Hoover Levee, and recognizes the alarming potential costs of restoring the remaining 120 miles. The congressman should recognize that the spillway, combined with additional land on the south side of the Okeechobee Levee, would allow for the restoration of the Okeechobee Levee.160430-γ16043 0-C Talahashi Demons Crat The criticism of florida's sugar farmer s-J. This headline is not only a surprisingly dishonest claim, but only one of the many lies that Walton speaks in this column. I don't think the $ 3. 2 billion contribution to Florida's pocket is a "trivial thing." There is no doubt that the agriculture of Florida and the tax revenue created by it are one of the reasons for the lack of a state income tax in Florida. It is irresponsible that Walton's suggested sugarcane farmers are responsible for environmental destruction, and that the same farmers have consistently reduced contamination. In fact, last year farmers in the Everglaze area (EAA) have achieved historical 79 % of phosphorus reductions. In addition, Walton has presented a very incorrect scheme to connect sugarcane farmers to the water quality problem of the Karosacy River and St. Lucy. Overwhelming scientific evidence does not support these claims. Scientifically proven is that 80 % of pollution is due to the local community, septic tanks, and waste water from the north and west of Lake Okichobee. In comparison, the community, located on the south side of Lake Okichovie, has a modern sewer system, and is located within 100 miles, is only less than 1 % of water and pollution inflow in Lake Okichobee in the past 10 years. This is based on data obtained by the South Florida Water Management District. Wolton does not mention 6 million people in Southern Florida. 160430-D < SPAN> It's easier to blame environmental issues than to lack leadership. Unfortunately, Wolton is not the only one who considers 40, 000 souls, who proudly calling their hometown of the local community and grazes south of Lake Okichovy, as their hometown. He is arrogant, saying that our lives are only on e-tenth value in Florida, and we don't deserve their efforts. He develops sad claims using evidence that is directly related to the sugar industry. Regardless of large and small, it does not take into account many businesses (agricultural companies, maintenance companies, other independent businesses, etc.), which are indirectly dependent on agriculture. Thousands of people rely on this industry to develop their families are based on someone's personal intention to Big Sugar, rather than environmental protection. He and his representatives want to be flooded and homeless to achieve their goals. Everglaze Agricultural District may produce 25 % of sugar in this country, but we are more. Walton will not know that Everglaze's Agricultural District is a huge production area of various vegetables and rice. In fact, EAA is the capital of winter vegetables in the world. Let's briefly explain for those who do not know history.

The Chuo Everglaze Planning Program is described as a series of engineering projects that hold water around Lake Okichovie and drop south to the center of Everglaze, but was approved on Thursdays by the major committee of the U. S. Senate. The Senate Environmental and Public Office Committee incorporated an Everglese Central Planning Program as part of the Water Resources Reform and Development Law. This bill is currently being deliberated at the Senate plenary session. "The approval of this project is an important step in our continuous efforts to recover Everglaze." This project is not only a jewel in Florida, but also in Florida. It will be useful for people to recover the area, which is also a water source for beautiful drinking water. That means so much nitrogen and phosphorus being released that there are fears that if the water temperature gets any closer to 80 degrees or if there is too much sun, a bloom will begin. This beach, and some parks in Martin and St. Lucie counties, are marked with signs that read: "Do not touch the water. Toxic algae." Not far from Stuart, Jackie Thurlow-Lippisch of the Sewol Commission sits on the sandy stretch of Indian River Lagoon where she played as a child. A toxic algae bloom in 2013 led to people with respiratory illnesses being advised to take extra care. Sailing camps were canceled and filming was abandoned. Thurlow-Lippisch says the tropical playground she grew up in is no longer there. "People come to paradise because they come to paradise, and unfortunately when they come to paradise, they can turn it into hell." Like many, she fears that runoff from Lake Okeechobee will continue to stunt the lagoon's recovery. And with the summer rains approaching, they worry the toxic foliage will bloom again, further undermining the health of the Indian River Lagoon.160430-γ160429-B Clean Net Ness Dollars News-Press. com-From Chad Gillis April 29, 2016 Dirty water is bad for business. That was the theme among industry leaders and politicians who gathered at the Bell Tower Crowne Plaza Hotel on Thursday to talk about the economic impacts of January's record rains and the subsequent Lake Okeechobee discharges. "It all starts with the Lake Okeechobee watershed," said Drew Bartlett of the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. "The Culloosahatchee River can't have too much water or too little water, so we need storage." A strong El Niño weather pattern dumped more than a foot of rain on average in Southwest Florida in January. Rainwater from the local landscape flooded the coast, and Lake Okeechobee discharges exacerbated the problem. South Florida changed decades ago to send water to the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean as fast as gravity and pumps could send it. Too much freshwater upsets the delicate mix of brackish waters that is necessary to sustain marine life. State and federal agencies that manage Lake Okeechobee's water levels have maxed out discharges.

Inspectors have found that the city has pumped 100 gallons to 200 gallon wastewater in mangrove forests on March 21 and 22. According to DEP's spokeswoman Jessica Boyd, the drainage continued until March 25. Boyd said that it did not threaten the health of about 400 residents of Everglazes City. "The excreted water sampling shows that the bacterial level is within the state of the state and not threatening health," she said. If a misdorned sewage flows into the ground water, it may cause water quality and environmental problems. Waste carries nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus, generates algae, and reduces oxygen levels. "If the level of bacteria rises, it is dangerous to collect shellfish and swim," said Hecker. "It is not a good idea to allow this kind of contamination to flow into the waterway, and it is necessary to deal with and control as soon as possible, and praise that DEP has taken action," said Hamilton for several weeks. We have been working with DEP for some time to perform the necessary repair. DEP promises the city to provide more than $ 600.

16042 9-E MARCO Rubio: Buy Sugar Land South OF Lake O is Not 'Realistic' Palm Beach Pos t-by George Bennett, Staff Writer April 29 Former President Rubio, a former Republican presidential party, whose Senate's term expires "at this time," is not supported by purchasing a rice sugar land south of Lake Okichobee to create a reservoir to reduce the harmful emissions to the Indian River Lagoon and Carosa Hatchy. After visiting the office in the Southern Florida Water Management District near the Soro Palm Beach, we talked to the reporters and many of the U. S. Sugar to save the U. S. Rubio said there is no "silver bullet" project that would solve problems like Everglades restoration, flood control around the lake and pollution along the St. Lucie River to the east and the Caloosahatchee River to the west. "We need to do more.

Driving through flooded sugarcane fields during what should be South Florida's dry season, Ross said environmental groups have become "a cottage industry where you have to have an issue to fight for to keep raising money. There's a set agenda to get rid of farmland." Eric Draper, director of Audubon Florida, laughs wryly at the comment. "I've known Rick for a long time," he says. "He's a nice guy who can make some big statements, including some blistering diatribes against environmentalists. Even if he doesn't listen to me, I respect his opinion as an NAA farmer." Environmentalists want to use just 5 to 10 percent of the region's 450, 000 acres to purify water for the Everglades, Draper says. "We're not going to use it all," he said. "But I've been working on the Everglades for 25 years and I've never said that. No credible environmental leader has said that. We'd rather complete the project than build a reservoir south of the lake." The best way to protect the Everglades, the St. Lucie River and the lagoons, he said, is to "move forward with all the projects that are already underway."
16042 8-A Corther Reduces Lake OKECHORGES PALM BEACH POS T-by Kimberly Miller APRIL 28 Announced that it will further reduce harmful water discharge from Lake Kichobee 。 Changes will start tomorrow. Average about 650 cubic feet per second and 420 million gallons per day are released at the St. Lucy estuary. Carosa hatchi decreases to 1. 2 billion gallon a day. On Thursday, Lake Okichovie is 14, 33 feet above sea level, 2 feet lower than the peak (16, 4 feet) on February 8. Florida water administrators are carefully monitoring the water level of Lake Okichobee. If the lake is too high, it may start to eroded the embankment that protects the community around the lake. The Marines prefer to keep the water level of the lake between 12. 5 feet and 15. 5 feet above sea level. This is the falling flow from the second lake in the last two weeks. Sending excess freshwater to the canal and basin through Florida's complex artificial hydropower system can harm other areas. In the St. Lucy and the Carosa Hatchy River, there are ecosystems that grow in brackish waters, high salt, water pollution, and expanded basins.

The Oklahoma Republican was the only senator to vote against the comprehensive Everglades restoration plan when it passed the Senate in 2000. But Inhofe said Rubio convinced him to include the Florida project in the bill, which also includes a third, smaller project in Florida, which would provide about $24. 6 million in federal payments to Flagler County for beach resurfacing and storm protection. The bill still needs to be approved by the full Senate and combined with a similar bill from the House before it can be sent to President Obama for his signature. With the support of the biggest critics of Everglades restoration in the Senate, it has a good chance of passing. It took just 15 minutes for the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee to send the three bills to the full Senate. "That may be a record," Inhofe said. "I don't know," he said. Bosch says the light suddenly changes dramatically in a water system where seaweed and biology have maintained the transparency of light, but there is no seaweed and the water is very muddy. Of course, there are oppositions. Brian Lapoant, a researcher at Florida Atlantic University, claims that the death of the seaweed in Florida is due to the large amount of nutrients such as nitrogen leaked into the bay waters, and it has grown algae. 。 "Sea grass can cope with a fairly high salt concentration," says Rapoin. In the previous daef, scientific controversy occurred over whether the change in salt concentration was really the cause. However, Bosch, who led the scientific verification of the removal during the Clinton administration (at that time, was not concluded at the time), said that the high salt concentration is now the mainstream of scientific explanations. Ta. The seaweed not only in Florida Bay but also around the world is in danger. The 2009 survey revealed that the world's as a whole has decreased by 29 % throughout the 19th century. Quoted source
The project is expected to be completed in 2020, but scientists are concerned that it will take too long to stop the current death of the ocean, and will probably have many consequences. And it's not just nature that needs this fresh water. South Florida, which currently has a population of 6 million and is steadily growing, relies on the Biscayne Aquifer, which is recharged from the Everglades, for drinking water. The water in the aquifer flows through limestone, which is very porous, so both salt water and fresh water can seep through it. In effect, two walls of water are creeping up against each other. If not enough fresh water flows south into Florida, Florida Bay could become too saline, and the sea could also flow into the Everglades, turning the land into an island and flooding it. In short, this is bad news for the whole system. Even as local, state and national governments accelerate efforts to provide fresh water to the Everglades and the Bay, questions remain about how much climate change will exacerbate problems like sea erosion. After all, climate change will increase the number of oceans and people living in them.

Wu April 27, 2016 Election season, by its very nature, is polarizing. As we all know, this is no exception. That is why we are pleased to see a major bridge-builder in the midst of a season of turmoil in the ranks, especially on an issue that evokes the most partisan rhetoric: climate change. In honor of Earth Day, Senator Lindsey Graham, Republican of South Carolina, introduced an amendment to the Energy and Water Appropriations bill to state that: Climate change is real ● Human activity causes it ● The U. S. Congress is better positioned to address the threat that climate change poses to our nation's health and safety ● Noting that more than 180 countries, including China, India, and Brazil, are working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the amendment calls for the United States to take the lead on the issue.
According to the petition submitted to the House of Representatives General Affairs Committee, it is "water supply and public safety". Climate change is not an abstract problem, but as a realistic problem that water spills on lo w-land roads due to the rise in the sea surface. As a person who listens to the public's care of the Pope Francisco's important imperial edict "Laudat Shi", I know that I have to pay attention to this problem and make a voice. One of them. However, it is aware that simply attacking from a moral level does not help find a solution so that it does not go away from climate change. All you need is not a rhetoric but an action. And the actions are born for the first time when we all seek common interests and find a common foundation through such ultr a-partic efforts. People who support urgent actions need to understand the anxiety that some people have for their work and take measures to deal with that anxiety. Those who say nothing should do if they do not take action, we must make a great deal of evidence that both the United States and the whole world are realistic. In the 1920s, when the farmers began to understand the value and richness of these land, two hurricanes led the area to the flood. More than 2, 000 people died in one storm. As a result, President Herbert Hoover and the Federal Congress took measures to prevent such floods from occurring again. In the 1930s, the US Army Engineering Corps (USACE) began a project to build a 14 3-miles of soil dam, which became known as Herbert Hoover Daik (HHD). |
The solution to this challenge is almost universally agreed upon: we must capture and store excess water before it can do harm. The proposed federal “help” comes in the form of $500 million to build a reservoir south of Lake O. But Senator Clawson, who has fought for the value of limiting government, not only does the opposite; by giving the federal government the power to take from private citizens, he ignores several key elements. First, it defies logic. If a bathtub is dangerously close to overflowing, it is logical to pump the water to stop it from leaking. By the same token, why not capture and store the water before it reaches the reservoir, effectively stopping the overflow? Second, Florida environmentalists (in and out of government) who have studied this problem for years agree that capturing and storing water on the south side of the lake is insufficient. Millions of gyration storage is needed, and the best place to store it is actually on the north side of the lake. Third, the Everglades projects already approved are to be funded 50/50 by the state and federal governments. To date, the federal government is about $1 billion behind the contracting party. Instead of spending $500 million on an effort that won’t work, why not use federal funds already created by those who aren’t getting results? Finally, the agricultural industry continues to lead the way in protecting water quality through Best Management Practices (BMPs). These BMPs have brought nearly 95% of the Everglades to meet stringent water quality standards of 1 part per billion. Additionally, Floridians approved Amendment 1 in 2014, authorizing the use of 1/3 of DOC stamp revenues for 20 years to purchase wilderness lands, maintain current state lands (Florida is already over 28% wilderness), and restore the Everglades. Recently, Governor Rick Scott signed the Legacy Florida bill, which allocates $200 million per year from Amendment 1 funds to restoration projects for the life of the bill, 20 years in the process.
