At BWC, we launched a comprehensive review of 21 leading casino and sportsbook operators to assess their ESG performance. Our goal is to provide players with clear and reliable information about which brands are committed to ethical practices and which are falling short.

Key Findings from Our ESG Assessment

Our research focused on four key areas:

Transparency: We looked at how openly companies are disclosing their ownership, operations and ESG commitments. Transparency is fundamental to accountability. Our findings revealed a significant gap between public and private companies. Publicly listed companies generally score higher on transparency due to regulatory requirements, while most private companies provide very little information.

ESG Plan and Report: Estimated the presence and quality of companies that are specifically considering responsible gaming, and the presence of ESG projects of companies that spans the general elements of the environment, society, and government. Many companies have issued a statement on responsible gaming and sustainability, but few companies provide specific data or set measurable goals.

The compliance with regulations in fields such as compliance marketing, privacy, security, antitrust law (AML), and player protection was not subject to negotiations. According to our survey, all companies have faced some regulation measures in the past, and the degree has varied. This highlights the continuous task of balancing profitability and legal and ethical obligations.

We also examined reviews by third parties such as Glassdoor and CSRHUB to get a broader perspective than thir d-party data. These sources provide valuable insights, but may not be consistent or depth. However, CSRHUB data has become a useful benchmark, especially for companies that are particularly difficult to evaluate.

Promoting Ethical Brands

As a result of several months of investigations, BWC has identified 10 companies that meet the minimum standards for transparency, ESG performance, and compliance. These companies are introduced on the BWC platform, and players can know more about responsible gaming, environmental sustainability, and commitment to social justice.

But our activities do not end here. We continue to improve the evaluation method, continue to expand our surveys to reach a deeper range, including more businesses. Our goal is to set an ethical practical benchmark in the Igaming industry and fulfill its accountability for corporate behavior.
