i. Macy’s on Herald Square Holiday Windows

Macy's (MACY'S) is the most Christmas in all windows, so it's better to start here.

The theme changes every year, but the Macy's window is always magical by combining puppet plays and displays. This theme is often associated with the theme of "Beleave" repeated during the holiday season.

Do you have enough time? Experience the "3 4-chome miracle" fantasy and visit Macy's Santaland (see below).

Do you have more time? Macy's is one of the best places to do Christmas shopping in New York. The store is beautifully decorated and sold well. It may be a good idea to come back and shop later so that you do not need to carry it after shopping.

It's not a showcase, but it's just a detour, so it's a great place to interrupt Christmas tours. At the summer Bryant Park, an outdoor film festival is held every Monday, but in winter it turns into a holiday Wonderland.

There are a great ice link (see below for details), a holiday market, and a po p-up bar, where you can stop by to overcome the cold, such as hot chocolate with marshmallows.

Opened on October 27, 2023 and will be open until early March 2024. There are also Iguru, curling cafes, and a bumper car on ice!

Lions has been watching the crowds of the Avenue since 1911. They have a name, "patience" on the south side of the library stairs and "patience" on the north side. I always make a big lease on my neck on holidays.

v. Saks Fifth Avenue Holiday Windows and Light Show

There is a sa x-Fifth Avenue opposite the Rockefeller Center and on the other side of the fifth world. The entire 1 0-story facade in this symbolic store is used for the gorgeous light and music show during the holiday season.

The show lasts a few minutes and takes place every 10 minutes between 5pm and 11pm from late November to early January.

The windows are often themed after Broadway shows or popular fairy tales. They are festive and always beautiful, though not particularly Christmassy. But in 2023, they were inspired by Christian Dior's funding.

i x. “The Fifth Season” Installation

The Pulitzer Fountain in front of the Plaza Hotel is usually decorated for the holiday season by the 5th Avenue Association.

Some years it has elaborate displays with artificial icebergs and polar animals. Other years, Christmas trees are decorated around the fountain.

x. Park Avenue Holiday Trees

The 2. 5 mile (4 km) Park Avenue is lined with Christmas trees. Beginning on the first Sunday in December, the Park Avenue Christmas Lights are displayed across the center of Park Avenue from 97th Street to 48th Street.

xi. Bloomingdales Holiday Windows

Bloomingdale's themes change every year, but they often include interactive elements for children to enjoy, local artists, or highlights from recent movies.

2. Macy’s Santaland

Visiting Santa at Macy's Santaland in New York is a highlight for kids, but requires some coordination.

Reserving a time slot for Macy’s Santaland

Santaland is open from the end of November (just after Thanksgiving) until December 24th. You need to reserve a time slot to visit Santa.

The times available vary each day, but are clearly displayed online. You can reserve a 30-minute slot from November 19th until 5 days in advance. It's free, but you must reserve online.

The time you reserve is the time you can wait in line. Wait times vary, but are usually shorter on weekdays than on weekends.

3. NYC Holiday Markets

Holiday shopping is a highlight of traveling New York. Most markets are outdoors, so be sure to go.

i. Union Square Holiday Market

The Union Square Holiday Market is the largest and best market in the New York holiday market. From late November (November 16, 2023) to December 24, it is held every day except Thanksgiving. More than 100 stalls are lined up, selling crafts, Christmas ornaments, and jewelry.

There are many handmade items that are souvenirs for New York trips and wonderful gifts. It takes at least a few hours to look around all stalls. It will be crowded.

ii. Bryant Park Holiday Shops

You can spend hours in Bryant Park, such as watching a tree, drinking drinks, ice skating, and shopping. Bryant Park's holiday shop (Bank of America Winter Village) is usually open from late October to early January (opened on October 27, 2023 to January 2, 2024).

There are nearly 200 stalls selling handmade food, Brooklyn crafts, handmade clothing and jewelry.

It's out, so be silent. It can be warmed while drinking a drink at an outdoor cafe bar area, a cozy po p-up bar near the link, or a drink at the Iguru Cafe (see above).

The Christmas trip to New York is not over, without looking at the holiday display. If you visit New York, let's see some iconic Christmas shows:

i. Radio City Christmas Spectacular

The Radio City Rocket Team will show off this Christmas classic and precise dance in New York.

For example, there is a standard scene that can be seen in this show every year, such as a wooden soldier whose dancer column falls like a domino with slow motion. Living camel, sheep, and donkey reproduction of the birth of Christ, two Daza buses danced by Rockets, modern projections and movies, and of course Santa also appear.

Children (and those who like children) will surely like it.

Period: Radio City Christmas Spectacular is from November 17, 2023 to January 1, 2024.

ii. The Nutcracker

The classic ballet "Nutcracker", which is performed by the New York City Ballet at the Lincoln Center every year. The giant Christmas tree that grows from 12 feet (3. 5m) to 40 feet (12m) of more than 90 people is a masterpiece!

Date and time: The walnut dolls will be staged from November 24, 2023 to January. The performance is (mainly) on Tuesday to Sunday evening, and there are matine on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays (since it is somewhat different, please contact the box office for the exact date and time).

Dyker Heights' crazy Christmas lights are becoming more and more famous and are a must-visit when visiting New York at Christmas.

Dyker Heights is a neighborhood in Brooklyn where many of the residents try to outdo each other with their Christmas decorations. This includes lights, inflatables, statues, and more.

When to See the Christmas Lights in Dyker Heights

The decorations are usually put up from Thanksgiving through the end of the year, and the lights are on from around 5pm to 11pm.

Remember that these people's houses are in the suburbs, so the time of day varies from house to house, and people don't like people coming home from work, eating dinner, watching TV, and walking around in their yards!

Where to see the Christmas Lights in Dyker Heights

The main areas for crazy decorations are 11th to 13th Avenues and 83rd to 86th Streets. Note: 13th Avenue is also called Dyker Heights Boulevard.

There are several ways to get to Dyker Heights: by bus (confusing), by car (traffic jams), by subway, or by tour.

• Take the D train to Coney Island and get off at the 79th Street stop in Brooklyn.
• Get off near the intersection of 79th Street and New Utrecht Avenue.
• Go northwest on 79th Street to 16th Avenue.

6. NYC Best Christmas Trees tour

One of the best things to do in New York at Christmas is to see New York's Christmas trees. Many parks and some establishments have impressive trees, and a tree tour is the perfect way to soak up the Christmas spirit.

Here are 10 New York Christmas tree tours:

You'll be using the subway and walking, so wear comfortable shoes. In fact, you might want to split it up so you don't get too tired and have a better chance of seeing them at night, when many of the outdoor trees are best lit up.

i. Wall Street Christmas Tree

There's a simple but beautiful Christmas tree at 11 Wall Street.

From there, take subway line A or C from Fulton Street to West 4th Street and walk a short distance to Washington Square Park.

ii. Washington Square Park Christmas Tree

The tree here is located in the middle of the arch at Washington Square. The tree is a bit shabby and often covered in colorful lights.

It's nice that it reflects the character of the neighborhood, with the colorful mix of people who hang out in Washington Square Park at all times of the day and night. There are plenty of restaurants and bars on and around McDougal Street.

From there, take a short walk to the subway and take the N, R, W from 8th St/NYU to 23rd St. Get off at Madison Square Park.

iii. Madison Square Park Christmas Tree

The Christmas tree is at the north end of Madison Square Park. In the summer, it has a fountain, but in the winter, it's a big tree covered in white lights.

At the south end of the park, you'll find the original Shake Shake, which is worth stopping for a burger and shake.

Walk across 6th Avenue and take the F or V from 23rd St to Bryant Park/42nd St.

iv. Bryant Park Christmas Tree

Bryant Park is home to holiday shopping, bars, ice skating, and a beautiful tree supported by the New York Public Library. It's easy to spend hours here, but at least stop for a hot chocolate with melted marshmallows.

Back at the same subway station, take the F or V from Bryant Park/42nd St. uptown to 47-50th St/Rockefeller Center.

v. Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree

New York's most famous Christmas tree. It's a real tree donated by someone in the area, and it's on display at Rockefeller Plaza, between West 48th Street and 51st Street, between Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The massive tree is covered in colored lights and topped with a giant crystal star.

When does the Christmas tree go up in NYC?

The tree is usually erected in mid-November, but a better question is, "When is the Rockefeller Tree Lighting Ceremony?"

The tree lighting ceremony is broadcast on TV, but you can also see it directly. There is a carol concert by a celebrity, and there is also a live broadcast of concerts and tree lighting.

vii. Park Avenue Christmas Trees

There are dozens of Christmas trees along Park Avenue from 5 4-chome to 97 chome, and will be lit up simply during the holiday season from the first Sunday night of December.

The whole tree is not a stunning tree, but the overall sight with long row of trees in the middle of Park Avenue is stunning.

Return to the 6th train on 86 streets and climb up to 110 streets by subway. From there, walk along the northern edge of Central Park and go up a little uphill to St. John the Divine (Amsterdam Avenue between 11 0-chome and 11 3-chome).

viii. Cathedral of St John the Divine Peace Tree

The Cathedral of St. John is a huge cathedral, worth a visit just to see the church. The highlight of Christmas is the beautiful Peace Tree, decorated with 1, 000 white cranes and other symbols of peace.

The Peace Tree is open from early December until just after Christmas.

From there, walk back up the hill and take the B or C from Cathedral Parkway/100th Street to 81st Street/Natural History Museum.

ix. American Museum of Natural History Origami Christmas Tree

I love this tree. The American Museum of Natural History is worth a full day, with plenty of other great exhibits, including a T-Rex skeleton, a planetarium, and a giant blue whale.

But from mid-November to early January, it's decorated with a spectacular Christmas tree covered in a portfolio of over 800 hand-folded origami animals and plants.

From there, walk to Broadway and take the 1 train from 79th Street to 66th Street/Lincoln Center.

x. Lincoln Square Christmas Tree

The tree at Lincoln Square across from Lincoln Center isn't the most impressive, but it is the highlight of the annual Winter Solstice Festival, which begins with a tree lighting ceremony.

The event takes place along Broadway between Columbus Circle and 68th Street from 5:30 to 9 p. m. and features entertainment, music, food, shopping, and more.

7. Holiday Train Shows

There are actually two different holiday events in New York.

(a) The Holiday Train Show at the New York Botanical Gardens

The New York Botanical Garden puts on an annual holiday show in its conservatory/greenhouse.

A model train runs through a giant display of over 175 New York landmarks made from natural materials such as bark and leaves. Landmarks include the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and One World Trade Center.

NYBG Glow

During the season, you can also enjoy an outdoor color and light experience at the Botanical Garden on select nights from 5 to 10 p. m.

There will also be after-dark viewing of holiday shows, an outdoor bar with drinks, hot cocoa and food, and a Bronx Night Market pop-up.

Bar Car Nights

A special evening for adults 21 and over. December 7 and 14, 2023, January 5, 2024.

Holiday Celebration Location and Directions

2900 Southern Boulevard, Bronx. By car, exit the Bronx River Parkway at Fordham Road (Exit 7W) and enter the gardens through the main entrance at 2900 Southern Boulevard to park. Off-site parking is also available at the NYBG Garage (401 Bedford Park Boulevard).

However, the best way to get there is to take the subway or Metro-North train from Grand Central Terminal. Click here for detailed directions.

(b) The Holiday Train Show at Grand Central Terminal

The New York Transit Museum at Grand Central. With over 34 feet (103 meters) of track, vintage trains depart from the mini Grand Central.

Opening hours are 10:00 AM-7:30 PM. Monday-Friday, 10:00 AM-6:00 PM. Weekends (closed on holidays).

Open from November 16, 2023 to February 25, 2024.

Tickets are $5 and must be reserved in advance.

8. Ice Skating

I love ice skating in New York. I'm terrible at it, but ice skating surrounded by the city is one of the most iconic New York Christmas traditions. There are many ice rinks in Manhattan, and other boroughs have ice rinks as well.

Manhattan ice rinks:

i. Bryant Park

The ice rink in Bryant Park is very large and completely surrounded by towering skyscrapers, which is very cool. There is a large Christmas tree, a fountain that sometimes freezes, and holiday shops are set up in preparation for Christmas.

• Monday-Thursday: 8:00 AM-10:00 PM.
• Select weekends (Friday-Sunday) + holidays: 8am-midnight (4pm NYE)

The best place? Free if you bring your own skates. Skate rentals are expensive, ranging from $18-$55 depending on the day. See the price list here.

There is a bag check service for $5-15. The rink closes periodically for ice repairs, but there are no timed sessions, so you can come when you want and stay as long as you want.

ii. The Rink Rockefeller Center

This is an iconic ice rink that has appeared in many movies and TV shows. It's located at the base of the Rockefeller Tree. The only drawback is that it's small, so it gets full.

The rink is currently open as of October 21, 2023.

Hours are 9am-12am (midnight) daily.

Timed entry is available throughout the day, and your ticket time will get you about 60 minutes of skating time.

Prices vary by day, but range from $21-73 for adults. Skate rentals are an additional $11, and commemorative beanies are available for $20. See the price list and buy tickets here.

For those who want to hang out after (or before) skating, there are eight comfortable chalets on the rink level. 50-minute reservations cost $12-15 depending on the time.

iii. Wollman Rink Central Park

Wollman Rink is located in the southern part of Central Park. The rink is pretty big, so there's plenty of room to play. It has sweeping views of Central Park and Midtown Manhattan. It's magical.

• Monday-Tuesday: 10am-2:30pm
• Wednesday-Thursday: 10am-9pm
• Friday-Saturday: 10am-10pm
• Sunday: 10am-9pm

Prices vary too. There's prime, top, and off-peak.

iv. The Rink at Brookfield Place

This little downtown rink is the new kid on the block. It's tiny, but a fun change of pace if you're downtown, and it has great views of the Hudson River. Opened in November.

• 60-minute sessions 2:00-9:15pm

• 60-minute sessions 9am-9:15pm

Cost per session is $17 (weekends) or $15 (weekdays), skate rentals are $7/$5.

Located at Three World Financial Center, 230 Vesey St (across West Street from One World Trade Center).

v. The Rink at Manhattan West

It's on 9th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets, near Hudson Yards. It's a small ice rink.

Sessions are one hour long, and until March 31, 2024, they are open from 10:15am to 8:15pm on weekends and holidays, and 3:15pm to 8:15pm on weekdays (available times may vary). Sessions can be booked online.

Weekdays, $20 per person + $5 skate rental, weekends and holidays, $22 per person + $8 skate rental (+ small online booking fee).

9. Festivals of Lights

The holiday season brings two cool light festivals to New York (plus the New York Botanical Gardens lights up the train).

i. NYC Winter Lantern Festival

The New York Winter Lantern Festival isn't a Christmas event, but it's a great way to get out and about during the holiday season. There are more than 40 LED installations "lanterns" up to 30 feet tall.

The Winter Lantern Festival will take place in Queens from November 17, 2023 to January 7, 2024.

Tickets are available online.

Enter from the dragon's gate, pass over an oversized poppy, cross a light tunnel, and enter a vast field where beautiful lanterns and light displays are scattered around. Some are more successful than others.

Sharks are frustrating to see nearby, but they are dramatic from afar. The African animals look a bit intense, and the Chinese pots are a bit tasteful (the same for Christmas trees).

However, birds emit colorful gorgeousness, pink flamingo is impressive, Chinese gates shine, and long dragons decorate a dramatic finale.

This event is held by Chinese cultural organizations, and in addition to lantern exhibitions, there is a “live performance mapping”.

There are some food trucks that sell food and hot chocolate, and some tents that sell (expensive) souvenirs, and there are also sugar art demonstrations.

Location and getting to the NYC Winter Lantern Festival

The New York Winter Lantern Festival will be held at the Queens County Farm Museum in Glen Oaks. It's the easiest to go by car. You can check the directions for Google.

To use public transportation, go to the Cue Gardens / Union Turnpike by subway E or F, then go to Q46 to Union Turnpike / 252 Street. 7 minutes walk from there.

ii. LuminoCity Festival

This can be a similar lighting experience at East Medou, a long island. Eight illuminations are placed on the 1 7-acres site, creating a fantastic land where six theme parks walk around. There are four special theme nights, and you can enjoy performance, holiday market, food and drinks every night.

• Thursday to Monday (excluding holidays)

The time admission ticket is $ 22 to 24 to $ 34 to 36 for adults (depending on the day). The VIP ticket is $ 63. Tickets can be purchased online.

• Enter the festival quickly from the VIP entrance
• Lucky bags with Lumi's favorite things are given for free (equivalent to $ 40)

Drive to Eisen Hower Park. There is a free shuttle from the parking lot to the festival.

10. Christmas Services

There are several churches that represent New York, who can participate in Christmas worship.

There are several Christmas worships at St. John Cathedral.

At 9:30 am on Christmas Eve and noon on the day of Christmas, you can visit the church with a guide.

iii. The Riverside Church of NYC
